A creative residency program: Suza Creative.
The MAM Foundation welcomes creators·in residence. These residences encourage experimentation, sharing with residents·and offer to the creator·This is a unique framework for questioning the place of nature and living in their creative process.
The works created during the residences are eventually exhibited at the MAM Gallery in Douala or installed in the public space in the village of Grand Suza. In 2026, the program will welcome artists to various practices, from painting to sculpture, to the transformation of recycled materials and the publishing of engraved works.
In 2025, the Foundation hosted a dozen artists in residence in its workshops and creative spaces. This year has illustrated the vitality of the programme and the diversity of practices accompanied, in a dynamic that will continue and enrich itself over the years.
Among the artists welcomed·in residence in 2025 included:
Linardiki Eirini (Greece/France), Debora Yawdam (Cameroon), Jean-Michel Dissaké (Cameroon), Mouna Saboni (Morocco/France), Kono Raymond Yves (Cameroon), Alida Ymele (Cameroon), Bochra Taboubi (Tunisia), Mary Lou Ngwe (Cameroon), Hélène Inglesakis (France), and Joël Mpah Dooh and Aurélie Djiena (Cameroon).

An engraving workshop
The MAM Foundation's engraving workshop is an initiative for accessible artistic creation and the development of the local economy. Featuring two professional presses, this workshop explores print techniques on various media, including paper, metal, wood and textiles.
In May 2025, a training led by two master-grators, Édouard Wolton (France) and Wernher Bouwens (Netherlands) enabled artists to gain advanced expertise and, in turn, to introduce other creators to this technique.
The objective is multiple:
- Stimulate creativity and boost the artistic offer by offering artists a space for experimentation and a wide range of techniques and materials.
- Promote artistic exchanges between creators·trices Cameroonian and international, enriching the dialogue between different approaches to engraving.
- Make art more accessible and stimulate a market around the publishing of engraved works, allowing the publishing of multiple works, thus encouraging their acquisition at lower cost by a wider audience.
- Develop a centre of training and reference by organizing workshops for artists, young people, amateurs and amateurs wishing to learn about this still little practiced discipline.
- Encourage local artistic production, with the possibility for trained artists·to transmit their know-how and thus develop an economic activity around engraving, for example by allowing women and young people to create artisanal objects (naps, curtains, etc.).
By integrating engraving into its creation and transmission systems, the MAM Foundation reaffirms its commitment to an art rooted in the territory, accessible to all·and in dialogue with environmental and social issues. This workshop reinforces the synergy between art, crafts, knowledge and nature.

Talents
Suza Academy is an art training and awareness program designed to transmit knowledge, stimulate creativity and support talent. Designed As an open learning space, the MAM Foundation offers workshops, master classes and meetings that encourage the discovery of the arts, critical reflection and expression in all its forms. This programme focuses on young people and schools in Grand Suza, but also on beneficiaries of the Foundation's various projects and emerging artists from the territory.
With Suza Academy, the MAM Foundation opens the doors of creation to younger generations, offering them tools to explore, learn and flourish through creation. These activities are a powerful lever of emancipation, where art and culture become vectors of social transformation and collective innovation.

Organization of discovery workshops for young people and schools
In order to make art, creation and knowledge accessible, the MAM Foundation has set up a series of interactive workshops, led by creators.·researchers·They're poets, scientists... These workshops promote the transfer of knowledge and strengthen the anchoring of artistic and ecological practices of younger generations.
Proposed activities include:
- Youth workshops with creators·In 2025, several artists, including Mouna Saboni, Bochra Taboubi, Edouard Wolton, Wernher Bouwens and Joël Mpah Dooh, shared their approach and creative process.
- Engraving workshops, allowing young people to discover the techniques of prints on various media.
- Workshops on plant heritage, in connection with the herbarium of the Suza factory

Master literary classes – Festival Days and Nights of Poetry
In March 2026, the MAM Foundation will organize the 4th edition of the Festival Jours et Nuits de la Poésie, an event celebrating literature, poetry and music.
Under the artistic leadership of poet-slamer Captain Alexandre, Marc-Alexandre OhoBambe and the writers·and poet·sses offers master classes for young people. Their creations are publicly restored in Grand Suza and Douala.
This festival, which aims to be an area of freedom, inspiration and commitment, at the service of education, creation and transmission, has welcomed, over the years, Alexandre Bord, Hemley Boum, Seyni Camara, Antonya David Prince, Gauz, Fred Ebami, Marc Alexandre Oho Bambe, Anne Sophie Stefanini...
In 2024, the event was marked by the exceptional presence of Christiane Taubira.
Invited guests for the 2026 edition:
- Gaël Faye – Literature, poetry and slam
- Walead Ben Selim – Sufi poetry and sacred music
- Djamila Ribeiro & Nadia Yala Kisukidi – Transatlantic dialogue around black feminist thoughts and African diasporas.
- Nathalie Etoke – Literature, critical thinking and diasporic imaginations

A competition to detect young talent
As a continuation of its commitment to supporting young people, be it visual arts, writing, music or other disciplines, the MAM Foundation is setting up a competition to accompany young creators of the bilingual high school in Grand Suza, which welcomes nearly 1,500 young people.
The winners will benefit from:
- Done year of school care (schooling and supplies) by the MAM Foundation.
- An artistic award of encouragement.
- Meetings with creators·and author·I'm sorry.
By celebrating the talent and commitment of younger generations, the programme aims to increase access to culture, create opportunities and encourage the emergence of writers, artists and creators.
Objectif 3. Diffuser et faire connaître la création au plus prèsdes communautés
Le pôle Art & Création de la Fondation MAM ne se limite pas à la production artistique, il veille également à assurer la diffusion des œuvres et des idées, en favorisant leur accessibilité et leur ancrage dans le territoire. À travers une saison artistique et culturelle et des initiatives d’art hors-les-murs, la Fondation offre à un large public l’opportunité de découvrir des créations contemporaines.

Une saison artistique et culturelle
La Fondation MAM propose des expositions, concerts et débats d’idées, en accès libre et gratuit. Ces événements se déroulent au sein de la Fabrique de Suza, dans le village de Grand Suza et à la Galerie MAM (Douala).
En 2026 :
- Expositions : Werner Bouwens, Aliou Diack, Aurélie Djiena, Soly Cissé, Joël Mpah Dooh, Boris Nzebo, Paul Onobiono, Claudie Poinsard, Mouna Saboni, Bochra Taboubi, Edouard Wolton.
- Concerts et performances : des concerts ponctueront la saison. Au programme : jazz, musique classique et contemporaine.
- Débats et conférences : Un programme de rencontres sur des thèmes très divers, dont les questions liées à l’innovation et aux nouvelles technologies.
- Événements : Suza Manifest en août 2025 et Festival Jours et Nuits de la Poésie en mars 2026.

L’art hors les murs
L’un des axes forts du travail mené par l’équipe pluridisciplinaire – artistes, créateur·trices, commissaires d’exposition, philosophes, économistes, anthropologue – dans le cadre de Suza LEV (Laboratoire Économie du Vivant) est de lier la démarche scientifique à la démarche artistique. Inspirée par les échanges avec la communauté et les réflexions menées dans le cadre de la contre-cartographie, cette approche favorise la création d’œuvres ancrées dans le territoire et son histoire, hors des espaces conventionnels.
Trois créations :
- La poétique du quotidien – David Damoison (Martinique) : Lors de deux résidences de plus de trois mois à la Fabrique de Suza en 2023 et en 2024, le photographe David Damoison a tissé des liens avec la communauté Bankon en partageant leur quotidien. Il a ainsi réalisé des séries de portraits dont une trentaine est exposée dans la maison communautaire et de nombreux portraits ont également été offerts aux habitants. Un livre de portraits a été édité.
- La réconciliation – Joël Mpah Dooh (Cameroun) : Inspirée du mythe fondateur de Grand-Suza, Joël Mpah Dooh a imaginé une installation sous forme d’un cercle de douze bancs en bois représentant les 12 familles notables fondatrices du village ; au centre une œuvre monumentale en bois et métal évoque le mythe. En partenariat avec l’entreprise Cameroon United Forest, l’œuvre a été réalisée entre Ebolowa (site de transformation du bois) et Grand-Suza, étendant ainsi l’impact du projet au-delà de son territoire d’ancrage. L’installation sera pour la communauté, un lieu de rassemblement, d’unité et de lien.
- Jeux d’enfants traditionnels – Aurélie Djiena (Cameroun) : L’artiste-plasticienne Aurélie Djiena explore le thème des jeux traditionnels d’enfants à travers une installation. Ce projet vise à créer un espace dédié à l’enfance en réhabilitant et en valorisant des pratiques ludiques oubliées.
Ces trois œuvres constituent les premières étapes d’un parcours artistique qui sera enrichi au fil du temps.
Un projet monumental : le stade-agora de Philippe Aguirre.
À plus long terme, la Fondation MAM souhaite réaliser le stade-sculpture (Agora) qui a été conçu par l’artiste Philippe Aguirre. Grand-Suza ne disposant d’aucun lieu structurant de rassemblement, cet espace polyvalent offrirait un cadre adapté aux pratiques sportives, aux rencontres communautaires, et aux événements culturels, favorisant ainsi le croisement entre art, sport et vie sociale.
Un avant-projet détaillé et budgété a déjà été réalisé par une entreprise spécialisée dans la construction de ce type d’infrastructure. Ce projet, à forte dimension architecturale et sociale, incarne l’engagement de la Fondation MAM à faire de l’art un vecteur de transformation du territoire, en proposant des espaces partagés où la communauté peut se réunir, célébrer et créer.
